Jana Waterfall Trek from Naggar: An Easy Day Hike

If you want a gentle taste of the Kullu valley outdoors without a serious trek, Jana Waterfall is a good choice. It sits above Jana village, a few kilometres from Naggar, and the walk suits beginners, families and anyone who prefers a relaxed pace.

About the waterfall

Jana Falls is a cascade of about 30 feet dropping into a rocky pool, surrounded by pine forest and terraced fields. It is not the tallest fall in Himachal, but the setting is pretty and the village on the way gives a look at everyday mountain life.

How to reach Jana village

From Naggar, Jana village is a short drive up the valley. You can hire a local taxi, or take one of the few daily buses that run from Naggar; the first departure is usually in the morning, so ask locally for the current schedule. Two-wheelers can manage the road, but it is rough in places, so drive carefully. From Manali the distance is around 35 km by road.

The trek itself

From Jana village the trail to the falls takes around 20–25 minutes, through narrow lanes and a rocky path. It is easy compared with most mountain walks, though the ground is uneven. Plan on one to two hours in total, including time at the pool and the walk back.

Best time to go

  • March to June: pleasant weather and a good flow of water.
  • September to November: clear skies and golden orchards on the way.
  • Monsoon: best avoided, since landslides and slippery paths make the walk risky.

What to carry

  • Shoes with a good grip, since the rocks can be slippery.
  • Water, a light snack and a rain jacket.
  • Some cash, as small stalls near the village sell chai and snacks.

Practical tips

There is no entry fee, but plan to be back before dark, as light and power can be unreliable in the evening. The water is cold even in summer, so be careful if you decide to step into the pool, and never swim if the flow looks strong. Take any rubbish back with you.

If you're looking for a base in Naggar, Ghar in the Hills is a cozy homestay right in the village — book your stay to wake up to valley views.

Jana Waterfall pairs neatly with a morning at Naggar Castle or the Roerich gallery. Start early, carry a picnic, and give yourself a slow, easy day in the hills.
