Jibhi, Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake: A Quiet Escape from Naggar

If the Kullu Valley's busier spots feel crowded, Jibhi and the Jalori Pass offer a calmer alternative: oak and deodar forest, small villages and an easy walk to a lake with a temple on its shore. It is more of an overnight outing than a quick day trip from Naggar, but the slower pace is the whole point.

Jibhi

Jibhi is a small village in the Tirthan Valley area of Kullu district, set among forest and apple orchards. It is a good base for short walks, birdsong and unhurried mornings. Facilities are simple, so carry some cash and basic essentials.

Jalori Pass

Jalori Pass lies about 12 km from Jibhi, around a 40 minute drive via Shoja village. Sources quote its height at roughly 3,100 to 3,200 metres. The road runs through forest, and in good weather the views over the surrounding ridges are wide and clear. Jeeps are the common way up, and the higher stretches can be rough.

Serolsar Lake

From the pass, the walk to Serolsar Lake is considered easy. It takes around two hours each way, sits at about 3,150 to 3,250 metres with only about 150 metres of climbing, and passes through golden oak forest. The lake has a small temple beside it, and some visitors camp nearby. Start early, carry water and a warm layer, and leave no litter.

Best Season

  • April to June: clear days, blossoming forest and comfortable temperatures.
  • October to November: crisp air and sharp mountain views.
  • July to September: best avoided because of landslides and road blocks.
  • Late December to early March: heavy snow can close the road; park at Shoja and walk if conditions allow.

Getting There

From Naggar, travel down to Kullu and onward along the highway towards Aut and the Tirthan side, then up to Jibhi. Delhi is about 500 km away, roughly a 12 hour drive. Hire a local driver familiar with mountain roads, and check conditions before you leave.

For a calm base before or after your journey, Ghar in the Hills in Naggar is a cozy homestay in the village, a good place to rest and plan the next day.

Practical Tips

  • Fill the fuel tank and withdraw cash in Kullu or Aut.
  • Mobile signal can be patchy near the pass.
  • Carry rain protection even in dry months.
  • Stay overnight rather than racing back the same day.

Plan Your Escape

Ready to slow down? Book your stay at Ghar in the Hills, then give Jibhi and Serolsar a night or two of their own.
